I knew it was going to be a lean year with
the fruit after our hard late freeze.
I was excited to see that the Cherry trees seemed to have
quite a bit of fruit on them.
Cherries beginning to ripen. |
Not as much as last year but enough for a few pounds.
A pie or two. A bowl for snacking.
Or perhaps a cherry margarita.
Yes, please.
The birds, however, had different plans.
Last year I had this for a harvest...
..plus a lot more.
I froze 13 pounds of pitted cherries for use over the winter.
This year... nothing.
The birds descended on the cherry trees and ate them all
- even before they were fully ripe.
Farmer D and I each had one cherry to test them
before we harvested.
The next day - all gone.
Just sticky pits hanging off the branches.
Thank goodness I still have about
six pounds of cherries in the freezer.
This is a great reason to make a Cherry Margarita.
Maybe two.
